Relatively new to the U.S. market, the innovative compounds of the Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Group have already enjoyed commercial success under the brand labels of our U.S. partners. In this next phase of development, we plan to bring exciting new compounds to market under our own MT Pharma America label. We’re currently building a new commercial organization and expanding our other functions to support this strategy.

 

The Director, Patient Engagement and Support is responsible for developing and leading patient engagement and advocacy. This experienced communications professional will implement a comprehensive patient engagement program and will be responsible for cultivating and maintaining the MT Pharma America corporate reputation with key patient advocacy and professional organizations. He/she will also ibe responsible for leading patient engagement support for RADICAVA™ (edaravone), approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for any patient diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

 

This position is the primary point of contact with local, regional and national patient advocacy organizations, professional medical societies, health-related think tanks and foundations and is responsible for creating, planning and implementing innovative programs in collaboration with internal colleagues and external groups that support the company’s strategic and therapeutic objectives, reputational goals and the mission and goals of regional third party groups. This position will have significant involvement with senior leadership, given the prominence and importance of advocacy relationship to the organization. The Director will lead the patient advocacy marketing efforts for future launch brands and product acquisitions. Responsibilities

    • Serve as the primary point of contact with local, regional and national patient advocacy organizations to build and maintain collaborative interactions to drive MTPA’s objectives, as well as the objectives of the non-profit organizations.
    • Develop the strategic and tactical patient advocacy plan for ongoing advocacy relationship building and reputation management, and be an integral member of the broader commercial launch plan/team. Execute plan seamlessly to meet or exceed launch plan objectives.
    • Define and standardize best practices in patient advocacy and professional relations.
    • Develop and implement patient advocacy engagement strategic objectives for MT Pharma America , and deliver results that will positively affect the organization’s top and bottom line.
    • Work with cross-functional teams to create effective, positive partnerships with peers and key internal/ external stakeholders and ensure alignment of Managed Markets business needs and objectives.
    • Create and manage appropriate budgets.
    • Leverage existing industry contacts to advance the company’s position in the marketplace and establish the framework for market access initiatives.
  • Ensure that all contracts and alliances are negotiated and executed according to the plan and in compliance with all applicable policies and regulations.

 

  • Analyze individual companies and market trends. Proactively seek out and evaluate new data sources, tools, and analytics to help improve brand performance, and identify/incorporate industry best practices.
  • Perform company-specific and product-specific desktop research to further inform commercial assessments; support the development/analysis of tailored external market research through third parties.
  • Develop key analyses and presentations for senior leadership and other stakeholders in support of business development/commercialization planning investment decisions.
  • Coordinate closely with members of the marketing, market access and public relations/corporate communications teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business (Marketing or Finance) or Science; MBA or MS preferred.
    • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry within patient Communications, Marketing, Sales, Marketing or Business Development, preferably gained in both small and large companies, and which included supervisory experience.
    • Minimum of 8 years of pharmaceutical marketing experience in Patient Engagement/Advocacy
    • Recent in-depth experience with: Orphan Drug launches; Specialty Pharmacies and Home Infusion in the Neurology/CNS market, and patient advocacy groups preferably within the movement disorder market.
    • Existing strong relationships with national and regional neurology KOLs and with patient advocacy groups within the movement disorder market.
    • In-depth understanding of CNS/Neurology specialty and the Orphan drug and Specialty Markets including the use of Specialty Pharmacy, Home Infusion, the buy-and-bill process, and the Organized Customer including IDNs, Medical Groups and ACOs.
    • Proven ability to develop and execute a strategic and tactical marketing planning process.
    • General knowledge of commercial agreements and intellectual property issues.
    • Leads by example, displaying integrity, collaboration, accessibility, adaptability, sound judgment/decision making, and an entrepreneurial, solutions-oriented attitude.
    • Demonstrates responsiveness, attention to detail, and follow-through coupled with ability to prioritize/multi-task effectively.
    • Strong analytical/strategic skills to synthesize complex information, distill critical insights to inform commercial assessments, and translate to tactical level.
    • Outstanding business case development skills, financial acumen and budget management skills.
    • Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office

 

  • Working knowledge and understanding of the pharma industry, broad therapeutic areas/disease states, drugs/treatments, and related regulatory, commercialization and compliance requirements.
  • Willingness to travel up to 75% domestically and internationally.
