    The Associate Director, Field Training & Development will lead all activities concerned with training and developing the field sales and field market access teams including the successful development, delivery and management of customized training and leadership development programs.  The Associate Director, Field Training & Development will consult with stakeholders in Sales, Sales Operations, Market Access, Marketing, Human Resources, Regulatory, Legal and Compliance to understand business priorities and design learning and development programs accordingly.  He/she will design, develop and manage the strategy, programs and processes to drive an ethical, compliant learning culture that delivers business results.  


    • Develops the long-range strategy and tactical annual training plan outlining all training and development programs and initiatives for field sales and field market access teams to ensure proper skills development.
    • Performs needs assessments based on feedback from field leadership team and field training visits; anticipates and analyzes business needs; identifies potential talent gaps and aligns resulting learning solutions with business goals.
    • Directs overall planning, development and execution for Plan of Action (POA) meetings, other national and regional sales meetings, field force communications, engagement techniques and presentations, product and product applications information, and role play scenarios.
    • Manages multiple complex blended learning projects simultaneously. Develops/implements onboarding process for new field force members including home study and live training. Concurrently, develops training programs for on-going field force development (e.g., e-learning, workshops, simulations, certifications, job aids and on-the-job learning activities).
    • Leads and manages the design, development and implementation of all related training materials, selling models and sales meeting materials and agendas.    
    • Works with human resources to coordinate all leadership development initiatives.
    • Drives an efficient and timely medical/legal/regulatory training material review process while ensuring strict compliance with corporate and promotion guidelines.
    • Directs all training-related logistics activities (e.g., hotels/meeting space, travel, shipping, etc.) tasked to subordinate roles and vendors.
    • Leads all vendor negotiations and execution with regards to training and national/regional meeting execution.
    • Engages with internal stakeholders up to executive levels (e.g., field sales, sales operations, market access, marketing, HR, compliance, medical affairs, etc.) to win buy-in/sponsorship to achieve department and business goals.  
    • Develops training objectives and metrics; analyzes the effectiveness and return on investment of all programs and adjusts as needed to meet objectives.
    • Leads Regional Field Trainers and helps determine future training structure.
    • Coaches representatives during training classes and in evening sessions.
    • Manages health content on the learning management system (LMS); ensures system is updated.
    • Maintains well-honed facilitation skills and oversees/develops other facilitators to ensure skilled training delivery and participants’ retention of product, selling skills, disease state, business, presentations and/or role-play training.


    • BA or BS degree required; advanced degree in science, business, instructional design, or education (MBA, PhD, MA, RN, M.D.) is preferred
    • 7+ years of pharmaceutical or healthcare experience
    • 5+ years of training and development experience which included leading organizational change initiatives
    • Above must be complemented by proven success in a field sales role, preferably at the district manager level
    • Preferred experience: Buy and bill market; market access and/or reimbursements=
    • Sound knowledge of instructional design and adult learning principles
    • Proven track record consulting to business leaders
    • Proven expertise in the design, development, and implementation of high impact, innovative learning and development programs; expertise specifically in training field sales and/or reimbursement staff is preferred
    • Strong planning and organizational skills; proven ability to manage multiple concurrent training and development projects to timeline and budget
    • Adept at learning new technical, clinical, medical product and disease state knowledge; current clinical expertise, particularly in neurology, movement disorders and infusion drug delivery, is a plus
    • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
    • Strategic thinker and visionary leader with strong business acumen
    • Excellent people skills; likeable, motivational and genuine
    • Displays tact, discretion and judgment; acts in accordance with legal, ethical and financial standards
    • Proficient in MS Office; familiar with learning management systems
    • Willingness to travel 15% domestically and internationally
    • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
    • Manual dexterity required to operate office equipment, i.e. computers, phones, copy machine/printer
    • Ability to carry, handle and reach for objects
    • Ability to lift and pull up to 15 pounds
