The Senior Director, Portfolio Management will lead the strategic planning and execution of global R&D portfolio.  The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the progress of drug development projects, optimizing resource/R&D investment allocation with sophisticated prioritization methodology, and ensuring alignment with the company's strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement R&D portfolio management strategies to maximize the value of the product pipeline of the entire MTP-group.
  • Lead cross-functional stakeholders to assess and prioritize projects based on scientific merit, strategic fit, commercial potential, and resource availability and so on.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align R&D investment/priority with corporate goals and financial targets.
  • Facilitate decision-making processes (including related meetings) regarding project continuation, acceleration, reprioritization, or termination.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels with all stakeholders, including R&D, regulatory affairs, clinical development, commercial, and finance teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement in portfolio management processes and tools.
  • Contributes to long-term strategy and development of the department.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory changes that may impact the R&D portfolio.
  • Ensure smooth transfer of portfolio management function from the headquarters to MTPA, fully collaborating with stakeholders in Japan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master’s, Ph.D., M.D., or Pharm.D.) in a scientific or medical discipline.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Minimum 10 years with a strong track record in R&D and portfolio management.
  • Proven leadership experience to manage and motivate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Highly Preferred: an experience to work internationally, managing staffs across countries (especially in Japan)  
  • Excellent strategic thinking and analytical skills.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with budgeting and resource allocation.
  • Familiarity with existing portfolio management tools and their pros and cons.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and the drug development process.
  • Knowledge of clinical and commercial unmet needs across a variety of therapeutic areas, and especially in the Neurology/ movement disorders, I&I and Oncology fields.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Outstanding oral/written communication, interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Willingness to travel as needed globally.

The salary range for this position is $194,000 - $329,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary may be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state and depending on the role), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.

 

This position is eligible to participate in our annual Short-Term Incentive (STI) program.  Specific information about the plan including eligibility rules and target, will be furnished upon hire.
