The Director, Procurement, is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing and optimizing the procurement function within Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma America (MTPA) supporting all Commercial and Corporate departments, etc. This individual will lead a small team of (1-2) incumbents to develop and implement procurement strategies, procurement operations, negotiate contracts, manage supplier relationships, operate procurement systems and workflows, and ensure compliance with procurement policies and procedures.

 

This incumbent will also be responsible for the implementation of procurement policies, achievement of cost savings, improvement operational efficiency, and the development of solutions to mitigate risks associated with the procurement process, as well as driving innovation, improve procurement resilience, and support sustainable practices.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive procurement strategy aligned with the organization's overall goals and objectives.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities through strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management.
  • Stay abreast of market trends and emerging technologies to leverage best practices and innovative solutions in procurement.
  • Align procurement strategies with broader company objectives including sustainability, risk management, and innovation.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor, manage, and develop a high-performing procurement team, by providing coaching, mentorship, performance metrics, and career development.
  • Foster a high-performing team culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and ethical conduct within the procurement function
  • Set clear performance expectations and provide regular feedback to team members, focused on collaboration, innovation, and operational excellence.

Supplier Management:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing to ensure optimal value for the organization.
  • Monitor supplier performance and address any issues promptly.

Process Optimization:

  • Streamline procurement processes to improve efficiency and reduce cycle times.
  • Implement technology solutions to automate and enhance procurement operations.
  • Evaluate and implement procurement systems, tools, and technologies to improve efficiency and transparency.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in procurement management.

Risk Management & Compliance:

  • Identify and mitigate risks in procurement, ensuring business continuity and resilience.
  • Ensure compliance with local and international regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
  • Develop and enforce ethical procurement practices and drive sustainability initiatives.

Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage the procurement budget effectively.
  • Track and analyze procurement spending to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Prepare regular reports on procurement performance and key metrics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field, required
  • Master’s degree, e.g. MBA (preferred)
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, with at least 7 years in a leadership role.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) are a plus.
  • Experience in life sciences, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical industries is preferred.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful procurement strategies.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in managing and developing a team.
  • Knowledge of sustainable procurement practices and responsible sourcing.
  • Familiarity with procurement technology solutions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Required to travel up to 20%, mostly within North America.

The salary range for this position is $167,000 - $225,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary may be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state and depending on the role), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.

 

This position is eligible to participate in our annual Short-Term Incentive (STI) program.  Specific information about the plan including eligibility rules and target, will be furnished upon hire.
