The Director of Trade and Market Access Strategy is a pivotal member of Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma America's (MTPA) US Market Access team. This role serves as the subject matter expert for internal stakeholders, including Marketing, Managed Access, Multichannel Marketing, Patient Support, Analytics & Insights, and Legal. The Director will develop and execute MTPA’s channel strategies and distribution networks for in-line and pipeline assets, ensuring alignment with business objectives. Key responsibilities include providing strategic recommendations to senior leadership and overseeing strategy implementation with the Payer & Trade Accounts.

Responsibilities

Strategic Expertise:

  • Act as the subject matter expert in trade and market access strategy, advising senior leadership and key stakeholders across MTPA.

Market Access Analysis:

  • Leverage both quantitative and qualitative data to drive actionable insights, with a focus on:
    • Addressing critical business questions
    • Evaluating gross-to-net strategy performance
    • Benchmarking KPIs to understand strategic initiatives and trends
    • Analyzing the impact of Market Access Marketing campaigns
    • Partnering with Market Access Data, Reporting, & Analytics to enhance business intelligence capabilities, including reporting, analytics, and predictive modeling

Team Leadership:

  • Support partnerships with Market Access Strategy and cross-functional collaborators (field teams, brand, and others), ensuring strategic and tactical alignment for key accounts.

Contract and Pricing Management:

  • Oversee contract management, including evaluating new contracts, assessing value, and analyzing ROI.
  • Lead the pricing committee by preparing analyses, planning and coordinating meetings, and documenting decisions and actions.

Market Analysis and Strategy Development:

  • Monitor and analyze market trends, channel capabilities, and industry disruptors, providing insights to guide business decisions.
  • Lead the development and optimization of distribution strategies for both new and existing products in response to market dynamics.

Vendor and Partner Management:

  • Oversee RFP development and vendor selection for new services, presenting recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Define and align service metrics and KPIs with Trade Account Teams, evaluating performance across distribution networks (Wholesalers, Specialty Distributors, Specialty Pharmacies, and Direct Partners).

Support for Trade Account Teams:

  • Provide data-driven insights to support contract negotiations, ensuring alignment with strategic guidelines.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Patient Services, Managed Markets Leads, Trade Operations, and Legal to integrate channel trends into scalable long-term strategies.

Industry Engagement:

  • Attend industry conferences to stay informed on competitive landscapes and distribution trends, identifying impacts on MTPA’s strategies.

Compliance and Order Management:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies in collaboration with Compliance, Legal, and Regulatory teams. Maintain and update order management practices per SOPs, with quarterly audits for consistency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Trade & Distribution within the biotech or pharmaceutical industry, including 6+ years in Managed Markets.
  • Proven experience in developing and executing channel strategies and supporting product distribution across healthcare delivery sites.
  • At least 2 years of management experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of distribution networks, including wholesalers, specialty distributors, retail and specialty pharmacies, and hospitals.
  • In-depth understanding of the payer landscape across commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid segments.
  • Strong grasp of evolving payer dynamics, including the impact of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs).
  • Strong familiarity with healthcare datasets (e.g., 867, 852) and government pricing regulations.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with strengths in project management and issue resolution.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Tableau.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within complex cross-functional environments.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $240,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary may be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state and depending on the role), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.

 

This position is eligible to participate in our annual Short-Term Incentive (STI) program.  Specific information about the plan including eligibility rules and target, will be furnished upon hire.
