The Business Development & Licensing - Deal Lead will be responsible for identifying, evaluating and executing external opportunities to grow the MTPA business. This individual will actively search and assess the global market landscape, leveraging industry intelligence to originate proprietary opportunities. The BD&L Deal Lead will manage the end-to end transaction process, from originating deals, working through the valuation and structuring process, and being the point person for transaction execution.  

Responsibilities

  • Proactively source and close high-value, cross-border transactions.
  • Evaluate scientific and clinical data and translate into commercial implications.
  • Build, expand and leverage networks to source proprietary opportunities.
  • Develop and apply robust valuation methodologies and design deal structuring.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment throughout the deal process.
  • Drive transaction to closure with a focus on win-win outcomes.
  • Demonstrate cultural agility, in in cross-border negotiations and collaborations.
  • Navigate Japanese corporate governance structures and decision-making processes effectively.

Qualifications

  • BA or BS required; Advanced scientific degree (PhD, MD) or MBA strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 7+ years of relevant experience in business development, corporate development, investment banking, venture capital, or hedge funds with biopharma focus.
  • Previous experience from VC, PE, public market funds, or pharma/biotech in-licensing / BD&L teams, with established investment track record is a must
  • Previous experience from organizations such as Royalty Pharma or investment funds with a track record of structuring complex licensing or royalty deals
  • Demonstrates success leading licensing/BD transactions
  • Sophisticated understanding of valuation methodologies and deal structuring
  • Exceptional negotiation and influencing skills with ability to manage complexity and drive favorable outcomes
  • Global perspective and willingness to travel frequently
  • Japanese language/cultural fluency a plus, though not required
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • A combination of scientific and financial training is ideal

The salary range for this position is $310,000 - $330,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary may be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state and depending on the role), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.

 

This position is eligible to participate in our annual Short-Term Incentive (STI) program.  Specific information about the plan including eligibility rules and target, will be furnished upon hire.
